After a week’s recess in auctions due to the IWTO congress in France, the 31st sale of the 2024/25 season took place today.

A total of 7 784 bales were on offer, with 70% of the offering testing 20 micron and finer and 55,6% of the merino wools on offer being certified as sustainable.

The market had to contend with a stronger ZAR against all the major currencies and although the market retracted in SA Rand terms, it was still able to end positively in US$ terms.

Sustainably certified wools, especially in the fine microns, attracted good competition, with 94% of the offering being sold.

The all-merino indicator eased by 0,9% to close on R173,35 p/kg, whilst the certified indicator declined by 1,3% to close on R177,22 p/kg.

A highest price of R237,83 p/kg (clean) was paid for a single bale lot of 16-micron merino fleece wool.

The Australian market had a solid performance last week and managed to close slightly up by 0,08% (AU$) this week, compared to the previous sale held on Wednesday, 21 May.

The major buyers on today’s sale were BKB Pinnacle Fibres (1 567), G Modiano SA (1 548), Standard Wool SA (1 497) and Tianyu SA (981).

The next sale will take place on 4 June 2025 where approximately 6 990 bales will be on offer.
